What the Experts Say
Bob is a great name for wine. Almost as good as Brian.
Smells like floral perfume, almost synthetic in a way, curious start, but there you have it. Flavours are more green melon, some cucumber in tonic water, sour-sweet, sherbetty finish says something different to everything. Disjointed wine, all up. Ok drink.
86/100 - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
Soft free run, skin contact, barrel ferment, full solids, no fining and no additives: to read the label on this evidently self-sufficient “Bob” Fiano suggests that the folks at M&R just left a heap of grapes around to see what’d happen.
Not the case, of course, but the trust in nature paid off with a waxily textural midweight white wine showing a combination of not-quite-citrus fruit with some Demerara and baking spice that brings to mind sweet persimmon, maybe. Cute hint of secondhand bookshop to the nose.
About the Winery
Named for five sisters of the Byrne family and the five scoundrels they married, this recently-established Clare Valley winery runs a no-nonsense operation with a focus on Italian varietals and small batch wines made with love.
All winemaking is overseen by black-and-white winery bulldog Banjo.
