Whiskey may have originated in Ireland in the 12th century, and its name is derived from the Irish "Uisce Beatha", for "water of life". Irish whiskey has evolved to be a hugely popular and distinctive style, triple-distilled for a lighter character.

Irish whiskey can be made in a number of styles, including blended, Single Pot Still, Single Grain and Single Malt. Single Grain, Single Pot Still and Single Malt whiskies all come exclusively from one distillery.

The world's most popular Irish whiskey is the best-selling Jameson, which is among one of the most popular alcoholic products of all time. Jameson's light delicate taste with notes of biscuit and lemon, distinctive green bottle and easy mixability have contributed to it being a favourite everywhere. Other popular Irish whiskies are made by Bushmills, Redbreast and more.

Scotch and Irish whiskey have a lot in common, but have a few differences in the production process. Irish whiskey is triple-distilled, giving a lighter delicate character, while Scotch whisky is double-distilled. The use of peat-dried barley is more common in Scotch whisky and gives a smokey taste.
