Winemakers Comments

An unusual fusion of Adelaide Hills & Clare Valley resulting in an intensely flavoured, complex yet elegant wine with distinct citrus, white peach & nectarine characters along with a subtle flinty note.

It has intense lifted aromas of melon and lime with hints of stone fruits. There are underlying tropical notes of green pineapple and guava and subtle secondary characters of flint, cedar and spice.

The palate delivers what the bouquet promises; citrus fruits, fig and melon flavours along with a clean, mineral acidity and a touch of lemon zest. Texturally, it is very delicate, with a soft mid palate and well integrated oak. The Clare Valley parcel delivers mid palate fleshiness whilst the Adelaide Hills component contributes restrained fruit characters and a hint of minerality that is typical of this region. Overall, the wine has a great palate line with length which lingers long after the ...

About the Winery

The Taylor family's long-standing association with the Clare Valley begins in the late 1950's when as Sydney wine merchants, they partner with the Clare Valley Co-operative to bottle and distribute their own wines under the Chateau Clare label.

Then, inspired by the great producers of Bordeaux, and with a vision to craft wines that rival the best in the world, the Taylor family begin an exploration to find the perfect plot of land on which to establish their family estate. On July 20, 1969, their quest brought them to a site by the Wakefield River in South Australia's Clare Valley. So on the same day that Neil Armstrong takes man's first steps onto the moon, Bill Taylor takes his first steps on the soil that will eventually become the family estate.

PHILOSOPHY

THREE GENERATIONS OF WINEMAKING

"We rest on the principle that the finest wines are those made with the greatest dedication and care. Above all our imperative is to 'respect the fruit'."

Land & Sea

Sustainability at the Winery

Taylors goal is to be Australia's best wine company applying best practice principles in environmental management to enhance sustainable business activities and products. Taylors favour the use of the most innovative techniques available to improve energy efficiency, water conservation and packaging.

They take all measures available to prevent or eliminate as far as possible the production of waste or pollution. Through this holistic approach to environmental management, Taylors aim to achieve sustainable land and biodiversity management outcomes for the present and future.

The Seahorse

Taylors Symbol of Sustainability

For over fifty years seahorses have been the symbol of Taylors family winery. On first glance, winemakers and marine scientists seem like unlikely allies. But they do face a common problem - climate change. Seahorses, much like grapevines, are indicator species that raise the alarm for serious climate-related issues. It's very important we do what we can to reverse their population decline before it's too late.

At national and global scales, Taylors partner with two organisations that are working to protect seahorses and secure thriving populations of these quirky fishes.

Sav Blanc?

Has all the characteristics of a Riesling! Minerals, dry and acidic.
Needs to be drunk at room temperature to appreciate the citrus notes at the end. Don't drink it too cold.

Very satisfying

Purchased based upon it's win in Germany. It's a wonderful sauv blanc for an afternoon with a few dips and friends. Not a patch on Cloudy Bay, equals Dog Point and Craggy Range, better than Phillip Shaw or Shaw&Smith. I'll buy again as it's great to have an Australian Sauv blanc in the house not ruined by the addition of semillion.

Stoneleigh Wild Valley Pinot Gris

A most drinkable pinot gris with a slightly sweeter flavour without the harsher overtones of similar products.
