What the Experts Say

Pinot Blanc for Lenton Brae escaped quarantine in 2011. Raised in old wood, hand-picked, wild ferment etc.

Saline and nutty, almost a sake-like thing happening here, green pear and honey. It has some honey gloss, but feels nice and tight with flinty highlights to texture, a lemon juice in water sort of acidity, green herbs and watermelon rind, and plenty of oomph on the finish. A bit like Chardonnay, only different. It’s excellent.

93/100 - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Our Notes

Pinot Blanc, the pale German cousin of Pinot Noir, presents here like a plump Margaret River Chardonnay from a mirror universe. Yoghurt and honey rather than cream, cherry rather than peach, still rich and full-bodied. Deeply savoury, with just about anything you could buy at Scarborough Fair featured here.  Wholesome and a little different, basically - Froyo, not ice-cream.

Winemakers Comments

The first members of the Tomlinson family arrived in Western Australia aboard the Lady Douglas on the 9th of July 1884. This wine recognises their voyage to a new life and celebrates my family's endeavours since. Edward Tomlinson – Winemaker

Tasting Notes: Medium to full bodied with a smooth, supple texture and flavour profile of blackberries and dark cherries. This release will continue to build and integrate over the medium/ long term.

Winemaking: Hand-picked and hand sorted this wine comprises 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. Matured in French oak barriques (30% new) for 16 months.

Vineyard Selection: The fruit is sourced exclusively from Lenton Brae’s vineyard located in the heart of Wilyabrup.

About the Winery

Lenton Brae’s operation, with its distinctive church-inspired winery, is run by Edward Tomlinson, the son of founders Bruce and Jeanette.

One of Margaret River’s most highly-respected producers, the name nods to the Nottingham district of Lenton, from which the Tomlinson family emigrated in the 19th century, and to the small hill (Scots: “brae”) on the winery’s grounds.

Sav Blanc?

Has all the characteristics of a Riesling! Minerals, dry and acidic.
Needs to be drunk at room temperature to appreciate the citrus notes at the end. Don't drink it too cold.

Very satisfying

Purchased based upon it's win in Germany. It's a wonderful sauv blanc for an afternoon with a few dips and friends. Not a patch on Cloudy Bay, equals Dog Point and Craggy Range, better than Phillip Shaw or Shaw&Smith. I'll buy again as it's great to have an Australian Sauv blanc in the house not ruined by the addition of semillion.

Great gift idea!

Got a bottle of Verve personalised and it was a great surprise. Can’t comment on the taste because she won’t open it. Lol

Stoneleigh Wild Valley Pinot Gris

A most drinkable pinot gris with a slightly sweeter flavour without the harsher overtones of similar products.
